CNA FAQ
How do I become listed as a Nurse Aide Level 1 (CNA I) in North Carolina?
Upon completion of an approved NA I course, the student must submit an application to the Nurse Aide Competency and Evaluation Services (Credentia) to be scheduled for a state-administered written and skills competency evaluation. Students who pass will be listed on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry with the Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS).
What vaccines are required for the Nurse Aide Programs?
Students are required by clinical sites to obtain certain vaccinations, a background screen, and a drug test before being allowed to attend clinical rotation at their facilities.
Students must provide vaccination records and proof of the required vaccinations. Vaccination records may be obtained from the primary care physician, county health department, county school system office, or parents. If the vaccination record is unavailable, the Hepatitis B, MMR, or Varicella titer results may be submitted. If the student has never received the required vaccination, the vaccination must be obtained and proof submitted. Students who decline vaccinations required by clinical sites may be refused entry, thus eliminating the student’s ability to advance through the program.
Below is a list of required vaccinations and known costs at different providing agencies as of November 18, 2020. The influenza vaccination is only required during the flu season. Flu season is considered to be October 1—March 31.

I understand it is important to be at every class. However, what happens if I miss a class?
Students are encouraged not to miss any classes as it will directly impact their learning, but CVCC understands that things do happen. Attendance policies are set for each course and are often mandated by the state requiring students to complete a minimum number of hours of class, lab, and clinical to receive credit. Make-up labs and clinical time are built into the courses, however, excessive time missed from either lab or clinical may result in the student being dismissed from the program. Students who miss an excess of 16 hours of class, lab, and clinical combined for Nurse Aide Level I and 10 hours in the Nurse Aide Level II may be dismissed from the course due to the inability to meet the attendance requirements of the program.
Where can I test for the registry?
CVCC provides testing on our Main Campus through Credentia.
