Adult Secondary Credential Options
ADULT SECONDARY CREDENTIAL (CLASS DETAILS)
ADULT HIGH SCHOOL
The Adult High School (AHS) program is a free online option for earning an AHS diploma. Students can work from home at their own pace to complete their remaining high school credits. The program is open to students aged 16 or older. Students who are 16 or 17 years must download a Minor Application Petition from the College and Career Readiness website and return it completed before admission. Students must score at the 9th grade level on a reading and math assessment and meet transfer credit requirements to begin taking AHS classes. HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY
CVCC's High School Equivalency (HSE) program prepares students to pass standardized equivalency tests such as the GED® or HiSET® . Classes are free and open to students 16 years of age or older. Students who are 16 or 17 years old must download a Minor Application Petition from the College and Career Readiness website and return it completed before admission. Students may study in our open labs or online. Students must be formally enrolled to use the online skill-building program. ABE Academy
Adult Basic Education (ABE) is a program of instruction designed for adults who function below the high school level. Instruction is offered in reading, writing, math, oral and written communication, and technology, according to the North Carolina Adult Education Standards. ABE Academy offers consistent and intensive contextualized classroom instruction which meets these requirements with a focus on career exploration and workforce preparation. Students enrolled in ABE Academy will share a common goal of transitioning into the workforce or additional educational programs. All students enrolled in ABE Academy have the right to a positive learning environment where they may achieve their educational goals. These programs are free and open to adults aged 18 and older.
ENGLISH AS SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
This is a free program designed for adults with limited English skills. Students will learn to speak, read, write, and understand English. Registration is usually held on the first Monday of every month at 9:00 AM or 5:30 PM. Classes are open to students 16 years of age or older. Students who are 16 or 17 years old must download and complete the Minor Application Petition from the College and Career Readiness website and return it completed before admission. Students who are 16 or 17 should see the Procedure for Minor Students for more information.
