Catawba Valley Community College’s Christy Lefevers Receives The NCCCS “Staff Person of the Year” Award

Lefevers serves as Associate Dean for Workforce Connectivity and Director of the Catawba Apprenticeship Network (CAN).

RALEIGH, N.C.—It has been an exciting year for Christy Lefevers, CVCC staff member. who was recognized by the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) as the 2024 “Staff Person of the Year”.

Currently, Lefevers serves in the roles of Associate Dean for Workforce Connectivity and Director of the Catawba Apprenticeship Network (CAN) at Catawba Valley Community College. Through the years, her previous roles include Accounting Instructor, Accounting Program Director, and Department Head of Business Programs. She is also a Licensed Certified Public Accountant.

According to the NC Community Colleges webpage (2024), one Staff Person of the Year is chosen out of all 58 community colleges in the NCCCS. The selected recipient shows “excellent performance and commitment to the community college mission", and they exemplify the spirit of their college through their work with students and colleagues.

As Associate Dean for Workforce Connectivity, Lefevers connects students to opportunities beyond the classroom, such as Work-Based Learning, Career Advising, and Apprenticeship, where high school and college-level students can earn money and receive hands-on training with a local company while enrolled in a CVCC degree program.

“We are proud of Christy’s accomplishments and commitment to enhancing the academic experience for all students,” says Robin Ross, Vice President of K64 and Talent Development at CVCC. “Christy has worked tirelessly to create and build relationships through apprenticeship that allow students to connect seamlessly with employers before they graduate. Her work has a positive impact on our students, our college, and the community at large by helping students improve their economic mobility. CVCC is extremely proud of Christy and honored to watch her receive the NC Community College System Staff Person of the Year Award.”

Lefevers is thrilled to have her work recognized at the state level, but also attributes her success to the support of her CVCC colleagues.

“Receiving the Staff Person of the Year Award is humbling, and my heart is full of gratitude,” she shares. “I think it is important to know that our role is about continuing relationships. Whether we work with our colleagues, business partners, or other educational institutions, we work together to accomplish the same core mission: help the student.”
