Catawba Valley Community College recently celebrated the students who received their Supervisor Certification credential.

The CVCC Supervisor Certification program provides new or experienced supervisors with the necessary leadership skills to be successful in their current roles, and helps them build a strong foundation as they move forward with their careers.

Key topics covered in the Supervisor Certification program include: Role of the Supervisor and Change Management; Communication; Time Management; Employee Relations Law; Financial Management for Non-Financial Managers; and Coaching, Mentoring and Counseling.

Rusty Beam, Business Services Director and one of the Supervisor course instructors, spoke to the important role local industry plays throughout the course. “Our Supervisor Certification program provides our students with the opportunity to learn from industry experts,” he stated. “These experts teach our classes, and business leaders come into our classrooms as guest speakers or to participate in our leadership panel discussions. Our students are also learning important workplace skills from their fellow classmates’ distance experiences.”

Gary Muller, Executive Dean of Economic Development and Corporate Education, remarked on the great accomplishments of these graduates and expressed gratitude for the companies who supported their academic endeavors.

“We are very proud of the 38 students who have graduated from our Supervisor program this summer,” Muller stated. “We are also very appreciative of the following business partners who sponsored their employees’ participation: ZF Chassis Components, Sarstedt, Shenandoah Furniture, Hickory Printing, Vanguard Furniture, Commscope and Hickory Business Furniture.”

The CVCC Supervisor Certification program is growing very quickly. New classes start every other month. For more information, please contact Joretta Fish at jfish948@cvcc.edu or 828-327-7000 extension 4471. You may also contact Sia Vang at Svang@cvcc.edu or 828-327-7000 extension 4487.
