Catawba Valley Community College honored the graduates of its inaugural Human Resources Institute (HRI) during a recent ceremony at the CVCC Corporate Development Center.

12 students graduated from the Human Resources Institute, which was launched in November 2022.

Graduates included Brandi Gregory; Emily Hinson; Carrie Bynum; Nancy Rodriguez; Helena Rosales; Hanna Marada; Wendy Helms; Sharon Brewer; Sarah Rodriguez; and Amy Toruno.

“We are very pleased with the success of our first Human Resources Institute and we believe a strong foundation has been built for our future classes,” said Gary Muller, Executive Dean of Economic Development and Corporate Education.

“We are grateful for the support and guidance of our business and community partners, who were critical to the success of our first HRI. We also give special thanks to Cindy Jarvis, our instructor, for creating a class that was very special to all of our students.”

The following partners served on the program development advisory committee: Tammy Smith of Vanguard Furniture; Susanne Swinnie of ZF Chassis; Claudia Main and April Reese of the City of Hickory; Bryan Shaw of Commscope; and Cindy Jarvis.

The following organizations sponsored the first class: Vanguard Furniture; ZF Chassis; Commscope; Sherrill Furniture; Hancock and Moore; City of Claremont; and City of Hickory.

As she considered the progress of her class, Cindy Jarvis said, “While developing the curriculum for the HRI, I knew it provided a wealth of information to support HR principles. However, the students’ thirst for how to apply the learned information in the workplace far exceeded my expectations.”

“The relationships built between the students provided a safe environment to share best practices, resulting in many process improvements in their daily HR functions. I’m confident each employer represented in the HRI benefited greatly from their employee's personal and professional growth.”

CVCC is very proud of our graduates and we look forward to the great things they will do in their careers. The next Human Resources Institute class with begin on September 12th, 2023.
