CVCC Announces New Chief of Security & Law Enforcement Education
Mr. Clyde Deal has accepted a new Chief position at Catawba Valley Community College.

HICKORY, N.C.—Catawba Valley Community College announces the appointment of Mr. Clyde Deal as the new Chief of Security and Law Enforcement Education. Mr. Deal has over 35 years in Law Enforcement, working for institutions such as CVCC, the Hickory Police Department, and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, where he continues to serve as part-time deputy. Deal is also a graduate of the 195th Session of the FBI National Academy.
In his new role, Mr. Deal will continue to oversee the safety and security of campus, lead the BLET program as CVCC’s BLET School Director, and lead the Public Safety Administration Law Enforcement Education program of study.
“I look forward to working with our law enforcement partners to provide the types of training they desire,” Deal says, “as well as educating new officers that have a desire to serve their community, so that the agencies will have the resources they need to provide the best possible police service available anywhere to our citizens.”
The BLET department is one of several degree options within the School of Community Development and Public Services. CVCC’s Department of Emergency Medical Science (EMS), directed by Kendra Lowman, is the longest running Nationally Accredited Paramedic Program in NC and can help students find a lucrative careers as paramedics. Our paramedic graduates consistently receive 100% pass rates on state and national exams and have a 100% employment rate upon graduation. Along with Law Enforcement Training and EMS, CVCC offers various Associate in Applied Science degrees through the Department of Emergency Management, Fire Protection, and Public Safety Administration, directed by Rusty Graham and Steven Rhodarmer.
Graham, Rhodarmer, and Lowman are excited about the department’s accomplishments this year, and they are thrilled to collaborate with Clyde Deal to continue developing these academic for learners of all ages.
