Catawba Valley Community College
Forging Partnerships with Education, Industry and Entrepreneurs
June 3, 2013
Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) is an innovative, comprehensive community college that fosters an environment focused on Academic Excellence, Globalization and Diversity, Economic and Workforce Development, and Student and Community Engagement.
As a participating Summit college, we will address the topic of an increase in national awareness regarding importance of small business, entrepreneurial education and the approach CVCC has taken to provide a seamless entrepreneurial experience for its stakeholders. Catawba Valley Community College will host the Summit on Monday, June 3, 2013 in Hickory, NC. The Summit will have multiple sessions consisting of:
•Building a sustainable entrepreneurial culture within a college and community.
•A high-energy event with an entrepreneur under the age of 30 outlining the importance of entrepreneurship.
•A Presentation dedicated to Catawba Valley's Manufacturing Solutions Center at Conover Station.
•A Discussion regarding the Shark Tank event that has become an annual event at CVCC.
There are two primary outcomes of the proposed Summit. First of all, CVCC will initiate and foster an open dialog regarding the entrepreneurial culture in the community college setting. Secondly, CVCC moves that the Summit will serve as a catalyst for the development of a national model for entrepreneurship education and community engagement.
This event will smoothly integrate with the national conversation related to entrepreneurship, as it will present a potential model for entrepreneurial education. Furthermore, it will spotlight CVCC's Manufacturing Solutions Center and the role it has played in the support of small business in CVCC's region.
Welcome to the CVCC SHARK TANK!
The purpose of the CVCC Shark Tank is to give entrepreneurs the opportunity to present a real business idea in the same fashion as the Shark Tank TV series.
The competition enables CVCC students, faculty, staff, and Small Business Center clients a chance to enhance their communication and presentation skills, while giving them an opportunity to possibly turn their business idea into a reality.
The CVCC Shark Tank is celebrating its 3rd year by taking this exciting event to the high schools!
Competition categories are: CVCC Students and Small Business Center clients, CVCC faculty and staff, and High Schools. Scholarships will be awarded in all categories, for CVCC students, Small Business Center clients, and High School seniors.
The winners in each category will receive scholarships from the CVCC Foundation, Inc. with funding received through a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation.
