Catawba Valley Community College’s Interdisciplinary Read Committee recently announced its selection for the 2019-2020 academic year: “Educated: A Memoir,” by Tara Westover.

“Educated” is an unforgettable memoir about a young girl who, kept out of school, leaves her survivalist family and goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University.

“Bouncing Back” is the first discussion scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, at noon in the college’s East Wing Auditorium. Adverse childhood experiences can affect both mental and physical health and wellness in adulthood. This presentation will highlight resiliency as a way to overcome adverse childhood experiences. Community members, students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the discussion. There is no charge for the discussion presented by the CVCC Early Childhood Education Department. 

“Educated” was a finalist for the 2018 National Book Critics Circle Award in Autobiography and numerous other literary awards. Westover&#’;s covers in her memoir, including resiliency, extremism, home schooling, herbal medicine and others.
