Basic Law Enforcement Training

Basic Law Enforcement Training Certificate is designed as a 7 month program that prepares students for a career in Public Safety as a law enforcement officer with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private industry.

Law enforcement officer in front of police car with flashing light bar turned onCatawba Valley Community College's Basic Law Enforcement Training Certificate program provides the basic skills and knowledge needed for entry-level employment as a law enforcement officer in North Carolina. The program requires more than 600 hours of training with topics that include: physical fitness training, ethics, firearms training, law enforcement driving, patrol duties, law enforcement communications, investigations, practical application and sheriff-specific. Successful graduates receive a curriculum certificate and are qualified to take certification examinations mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and/or the North Carolina Sheriffs Education and Training Standards Commission.

After passing this exam, graduates may be eligible for employment as a sworn law enforcement officer with various agencies.
