Catawba Valley Community College's Basic Law Enforcement Training Certificate program provides the basic skills and knowledge needed for entry-level employment as a law enforcement officer in North Carolina. The program requires more than 632 hours of training with topics that include: physical fitness training, ethics, firearms training, law enforcement driving, patrol duties, law enforcement communications, investigations, practical application, and sheriff-specific. Successful graduates receive a curriculum certificate and are qualified to take certification examinations mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and/or the North Carolina Sheriffs Education and Training Standards Commission.
After passing this exam, graduates may be eligible for employment as a sworn law enforcement officer with various agencies.
