Student Textbooks
Beginning Fall 2025, Catawba Valley Community College is making college more affordable and student-ready from day one through a new textbook model. In partnership with Cengage, most required curriculum course materials will now be included as part of your tuition—automatically delivered and ready for use in Blackboard by the first day of class.
This innovative approach ensures equitable access to digital textbooks, reduces out-of-pocket expenses, and supports student success by eliminating delays in getting started. While some specialized programs may still require the purchase of additional materials, all students will benefit from this convenient and cost-saving model.
Cengage Institional is more than just an e-book; it is an interactive learning experience that goes beyond just reading the text. It may include video and audio presentations and animation, adaptive quizzes and homework, and even digital flashcards. Your increased interaction with the content can lead to greater success in your courses, and with on-the-go access, you’ll never leave your materials behind.
CVCC remains committed to delivering exceptional learning experiences while removing barriers to success. Our move to Cengage Institutional reflects our institutional focus on academic excellence, affordability, and the transformational potential of every student.

All CVCC curriculum courses are participating. However, some programs with highly specialized materials and required kits—such as health sciences, cosmetology, or certain trades—may still require additional purchases. Please click here to view courses that may require additional materials.
Many digital books offer an optional, low-cost print version for purchase. To order a physical copy, please check with the CVCC Campus Store. If a physical copy is not available for pre-order from Cengage, you can use the ISBN to purchase a physical version from another retailer.
Cengage Institutional is a textbook model that provides digital course materials automatically as part of your tuition. Instead of buying textbooks separately, you’ll receive most of your required materials in Blackboard before the first day of class.
