SPECIAL SERVICES FOR
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Catawba Valley Community College provides services for students with disabilities. Under
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 a person with a disability includes any person who has a
physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person's major life activities;
has a record of such impairment; or is regarded as having such impairment.
Any student with a disability may request reasonable accommodations provided the student
submits current documentation (within the past 3 years) of his/her disability completed by an appropriate
professional. All information is kept confidential. The student will be required to sign a release of
information form before any special contacts are made to arrange accommodations. Request for accommodations
must be made several days in advance to allow sufficient time for accommodations to be arranged.
The following is a partial list of accommodations provided by the college: counseling
services, tutors, note takers and carbonless duplication paper, recorded textbooks, tape recorders for
taping lecture classes, interpreters, computer with voice software, and extended time for tests.
