How to Enroll
We're glad you're planning to attend our college. CVCC offers vocational/technical education that
can be completed in two years or less. The college transfer programs offered are designed to give students
the first two years of a four-year college education. CVCC is a great place to begin making your
dreams a reality. CVCC offers personal attention and a caring atmosphere close to home - all at a
very affordable price.
A better future begins at CVCC!
So, let's get started. . .
You will need to complete a CVCC Application for Admission.
To obtain the application you can apply with the
online application,
or contact Student Services at (828)327-7000, ext. 4216, or email bglenn@cvcc.edu
Have your high school, GED Center, and/or college(s) attended send official transcripts
to the Office of Admissions. (To be official, a transcript must be certified by the school attended and
received by CVCC in a sealed envelope.) Most programs require you to have graduated from high school
or earned your GED before you enroll. For more specific information, contact the Student Services
Office and ask to speak with a counselor.
Contact the Testing Center at (828) 327-7000 (extension 4260) to schedule a date and
time to take the COMPASS Test. (Your application must be on file before we can schedule your test
appointment.) The tests you will need to take depend on your program of study. For more specific
information, contact the Testing Center.
Some programs of study have limited enrollment as well as additional entrance
requirements that must be completed earlier in the academic year. These programs include, but are not
excluded to:
- Advertising & Graphic Design
- Associate Degree Nursing
- Dental Hygiene
- Electroneurodiagnostic Technology
- Emergency Medical Science
- Health Information Technology
- Radiography
- Respiratory Care
- Surgical Technology
- Polysomnography
If you are planning to enter one of these fields, contact May Khang at (828)327-7000, extension 4221, or email mkhang@cvcc.edu.
Now, it's time to enroll...
On registration day (or early registration if qualified) come to CVCC during
registration hours. Registration dates and times may be obtained from your advisor or Student
Services. If you haven't taken care of your admission requirements, come anyway. In most cases, you can
still register for classes. (You will still have to complete the admission requirements for your
program.)
Sign up for classes by meeting with an advisor in your academic field. If you have been
a student at CVCC before and know your academic advisor, contact him or her. If you have not been a student
at CVCC before, you will be assigned an advisor who will help you plan which courses to take. Some
classes fill early. If you think this may be the case with your classes, come as early in the day as
you can.
Pay your tuition at the business office. You must pay on the day of registration unless
you have made other arrangements ahead of time. You may pay using cash, a Visa or MasterCard, or a
check. If you want to use a parent's credit card, you must bring written permission from the card
holder. Get a parking hang tag for your car. You need this permit to park on campus. You will also
receive information about CVCC parking regulations. (There is no charge for parking on campus.)
Have your student ID made.
Buy your books in the CVCC Bookstore. Do not mark in your books until you are sure
you do not wish to return them. (Contact the CVCC Bookstore for the textbook refund policy.) You
can also buy your books after the first class meeting.
A word about semesters...
In the summer of 1997, the N.C. Community College System converted from the quarter system to the
semester system of computing academic credit. This change should ease the transfer of college credits from
CVCC to four-year colleges and to other community colleges.
At the same time, all N.C. community colleges changed their course descriptions to
become uniform. The same course titles and program titles are used at all N.C. community colleges. This
does not mean your program of study disappeared, but it may have a new name and slightly different
graduation requirements. All students are strongly urged to discuss this change with their advisors
before enrolling at CVCC.
All former CVCC students who have not yet completed graduation requirements should also consult their
advisor to learn how these changes may affect them. If you do not know who your advisor is, contact
Student Services at 327-7000, extension 4216.
How much does it cost...
It costs about $1,487 a year for tuition at CVCC for full-time, in-state students.
You must have lived in the state at least a year to be considered a resident for tuition
purposes.
Books and supplies can equal as much as tuition, depending on the courses you take.
Tuition costs are set by the state and are subject to change without notice.
Overall, the cost of attending CVCC is significantly lower than the cost of attending a
four-year college. Many students are able to continue living at home and working while enrolled at CVCC.
