Harold and Virginia Hawn Scholarship Endowment
The Harold and Virginia Hawn Scholarship Endowment was established by Harold Hawn, a
retired CVCC counselor, as a memorial to his wife, Virginia, a math professor at Lenoir-Rhyne College for
thirty-six years. Mr. Hawn is a dedicated and friendly educator who always encouraged his students to
continue their education beyond secondary school. Preference for the scholarship will be given to a
graduating senior or a graduate of one of the Catawba County schools pursuing a program in the College
Transfer Curriculum.
Award
The first year’s award is $600 for tuition, fees, insurance, and books. The
amount of the award will vary as does the growth and income of the endowment. The endowment is comprised
of funds donated by Harold Hawn. The Scholarship recipient may apply for the scholarship for the second
year.
Criteria for Selection
The recipient must:
- Possess potential for a successful two-year college career.
- Be committed to academic excellence.
- Have achieved and continue to maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA.
- Have participated in community/high school activities.
