Welcome to CVCC's
Music Program

Welcome to Catawba Valley Community College's Music Program, which opened in 1991. This program is recognized throughout the state university system for having produced award winning singers every year since it's inception, and for students who are very well versed in music theory.
Ninety-five percent of
our students have been offered scholarships to continue their education at four-year institutions. The CVCC Show Choir, performing group chosen by audition, is much in
demand throughout the state.
CVCC offers an associate in fine arts degree in music. The
98 semester hour program at CVCC will prepare students
to transfer on a junior level to most four-year institutions,
and all state colleges and universities. Our degree alone
will prepare students to assume the duties of a part-time
music minister in a local church, or and assistant director
in a larger choral program.
At degree completion, students should have 33 hours of music
course credits and 65 hours of standard core required
courses.
For new degree students who have not previously attended
any other college, a battery of placement tests in reading,
English and math is required. Transfer students may not
be required to take these tests. Students who have completed
these required subjects elsewhere will find no
trouble in transferring their credits to CVCC. Potential
students must prove an ability to match pitch with the piano,
see Mr. Kirby.
CVCC has no time limit for grades transferred from other
institutions. In other words, a person who started or finished
a degree 5 to 20 years ago will find that his core courses
will be transferred, and he will only be required to take
those courses which he lacks to receive his new degree.
CVCC Show Choir holds auditions in April each year.
Full tuition and scholarship is awarded.
Please see our Audition web page.
