ABOUT US

The MagnIT program is part of the Huskins Program, a legislated cooperative agreement between public schools and comunity colleges that allows high school juniors and seniors to enroll in college coursework during the regular school attendance day of public schools. The primary purpose of the Huskins program is to enhance the academic and technical course offerings for students. There is no cost for basic textbooks and materials or for tuition; costs are absorbed by either the N.C. Legislature or the local school systems.

Designed to enable capable high school juniors and seniors to enroll in concentrated study in one of four Information Technology career majors, the MagnIT is more than simply a listing of potential courses in which students may enroll for elective credit at the high school and degree credit at the community college. This program is a collaborative effort among the three area school systems of Catawba County Schools, Hickory Public Schools, and Newton-Conover City Schools; Catawba Valley Community College; and area business and industry.

The MagnIT is a high school on the campus of the college that serves as the bridge between the two levels of education for students who are rady for the challenges of college and know they are bound for a career in the expansive field of Information Technology. Students in the cohort will earn community college credits and have the opportunity to seek industry certifications in key areas such as A+, Nous, and Cisco Networking. They will also have the opportunity to participate in job shadowing and internships with local businesses and industries.

Students enrolled in the Catawba Valley MagnIT are both high school students in their home district and college students enrolled at Catawba Valley Community College. They are responsible for adhering to the requirements, policies, procedures and guidelines of both institutions; and the resources of both are availble to them to guarantee their success.
