College of Transfer

Why come to CVCC if you want a four-year college degree?

CVCC offers College Transfer Programs that allow you to transfer credits to a four-year college or university. CVCC awards an associate of arts, associate of fine arts or associate of applied science degree upon completion of these programs.

Why start at CVCC instead of a four-year college?

1. It costs a lot less. You can take the freshman and sophomore years of a bachelor's degree at CVCC and save thousands of dollars compared to starting at a four-year college.

2. You will not be sacrificing quality if you come to CVCC. We are accredited by the same organization that accredits four-year colleges and universities, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Our College Transfer faculty must meet the same requirements as faculty members at four-year schools.

3. You usually receive more individual attention in your freshman and sophomore years at CVCC. Typically, CVCC classes include 30 or fewer students. Many universities run freshman-level classes with 100-300 students. Some university classes are taught by teaching assistants. At CVCC, you are taught by faculty members, not assistants.

4. Our emphasis is on you, the student. Many large universities require faculty members to do research in their field. CVCC exists for only one purpose: teaching. While some of our faculty members do research, it is not a job requirement.

5. You don't have to leave home to attend CVCC. Many recent high school graduates don't feel comfortable living far away from home. CVCC allows you to get used to college life before you move out. Older students often find it difficult or impossible to take classes far from home. CVCC can help you get started while staying close to home.

6. Institutions that are part of the University of North Carolina system will accept CVCC associate degrees granted in 1999 or later as equal to the freshman and sophomore years of college work. This agreement means you should be able to transfer into these universities as a junior. See your academic advisor or student services for details.

7. Our graduates who have transferred to four-year colleges tell us what a great job we did. They had the preparation and self-confidence to do their best. Today we count among our alumni several teachers, a lawyer, and a speech pathologist, to name just a few.

8. You'll be surprised how many of your friends you will find at CVCC. Many recent high school graduates come to CVCC. Even if you have been out of school for many years, don't worry. You'll find other students your age in class. Your dreams are the limit when attending CVCC!
