Office Systems Technology
The Office Systems Technology curriculum requires students to complete courses designed to
develop proficiency in the use of integrated software, oral and written communication, analysis and
coordination of office duties and systems, and other support topics. Emphasis is placed on non-technical as
well as technical skills. Students learn about office management, records management, keyboarding, basic
accounting, research and reporting, oral communications, and business law. Some of the software applications
include word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, presentation graphics, and database applications.
The length of time it takes to complete the degree depends on whether the student is
full-time or part-time and whether he or she chooses the degree program or one of the certificate programs.
The full-time day student completes five semesters in two years. The certificate options can usually be
completed in two semesters. Please see the below schedule links for programs offered and the suggested

Graduates of this program are employed as administrative assistants, data entry clerks, and receptionists. These types of jobs in the business, government, and industry environment are almost always available. After establishing yourself in an entry level position and proving your work ethics and performance levels, salaries can increase rapidly as you advance to more responsible positions.
