Meet Our Staff
TIM PEELER has lived in the area for most of his life. He earned
a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from East Carolina University and a Master's Degree in English
from Appalachian State University. He began work in the LAC in August of 1995 after working for eleven
years in the hospitality industry. He serves as the English Coordinator for the LAC. Tim lives in the
Mountain View area with his wife, Penny. They have two sons, Aaron and Thomas. His hobbies include running
and freelance writing.
BECKY FRANKLIN has lived in Catawba County all of her life. She
earned a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education from Catawba College. Becky started working in the
Learning Assistance Center in October of 2000. She enjoys working with the students in the LAC. Some of
her duties include coordinating the peer tutorial program and assisting students with computer software
usage. Becky lives in Newton with her husband, George. She is the mother of two boys, Allen and Chris. She
enjoys painting, crafts, flowers and gardening.
NENA BABB is a native of Catawba County and earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in Math Education at North Carolina State University. She taught Mathematics at various high
schools in South Carolina and North Carolina for twelve years. After receiving an Associates degree in
Accounting at CVCC, she worked as an accounts payable auditor. She then earned a Master of Arts degree in
Mathematics & Education at Appalachian State University and began teaching at CVCC in 1999. She teaches
classes for the Mathematics Department and is the Mathematics Coordinator for the LAC. Nena lives in the
Vale area with her husband Jack and son Austin. She enjoys flower gardening, crafts, and playing the piano.
BILL BAIRD, a native of Hickory, earned the Bachelor's Degree in
English from Lenoir-Rhyne College and a Master's Degree from Appalachian State. He taught high school
English for 10 years and worked for CVCC as an English instructor and division chair for humanities for 20
years. Bill is now retired and works part-time as an English tutor and counselor for developmental students.
CHARLES SCHOENDUBE has lived in Alexander County since 1972. In
addition to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, he has
earned graduate school engineer's course credits from universities at Michigan, Massachusetts and Union,
Rensalaer Polytechnic and Berkshire Community Colleges as well as from more than twenty
specialized technical courses with the General Electric Company, from which he retired as an advance
development engineer in 1985 with 36 1/3 years of service. After several years of consulting and occasional
tutoring, he began work at the Learning Assistance Center in 1990. Chuck and his wife Beverly live in
Bethlehem and have three daughters: Karen, Nancy, and Wendy. Beverly is a reader-lady at elementary
schools. He enjoys golf, bridge, and assisting math and physics students on a part-time basis.
