Meeting Minutes
CVCC Professional Staff Association
January 20, 2000
East Campus 970

Members Present: John Beall, Kathy Harris, Sallie Neville Merritt, Doug Allen, Karen Less, LaDonna Goodson, Anne Williams, Sandie Loyer, Sue Asp, Mark Poarch, Judy Barkley, Connie Frye, Donna Trado.

President LaDonna Goodson called the meeting of the CVCC Professional Staff Association to order at 2:00 PM.

Goals:
LaDonna presented results of the goals voting ( attached ), showing pay equity with faculty as the top priority of the membership.  She then reviewed thoughts/plans for reaching the goals.

Goal 1

  • The Executive Committee reviewed the goals with Dr. Dunbar in December.  Dr. Dunbar was supportive of PSA reps meeting with legislators to pursue the pay equity issue.
  • PSA will make a brief presentation to the CVCC Board of Trustees at the meeting February 17, 2000, 4:00 pm in the Board Room.  Board members will be asked to consider performance pay for staff as well as faculty and to consider equal pay raises for staff and faculty.  PSA members are urged to attend the meeting.
  • State Senator Austin Allran and Representative Mtichell Setzer, two of our local legislators, will be targeted for state level action.  PSA members who know these two are urged to contact LaDonna.
  • LaDonna has developed an e-mail list of key legislators for use in contacts by PSA members.  The list is attached to these minutes for members' use.
  • In contacting lawmakers, it is important to thank them for work that benefited community colleges, but their salary actions only took care of roughly half of the employees.
  • Use personal stationary (not College letterhead) when contacting lawmakers.

Goal 4

  • The Executive Committee will meet with Mike Kidd January 20 to discuss salary grade and range information in the Policy & Procedure Manual (Goal 4), announcement of positions, and opportunities for developing career tracks for professional staff.
Staff at Wake TCC are considering organizing a statewide meeting of Professional Staff Associations in May, 2000.

Professional Development Planning Committee - Karen Less & Doug Allen
Doug and Karen reported receiving positive feedback on the presentation by Iwana Guest earlier in January.  There will be another professional development opportunity January 31, 2000, 2:00 PM with Dr. Barry Weinberg, VP for College Advancement at Rockingham Community College, as the presenter.
It was suggested that evaluations be anonymous.
Information on conferences and other development opportunities are on the web page.

Institutional Effectiveness
Anne Williams reported that the new IE Council has held its initial organizational meeting.  The IE process will be streamlined and simplified this year.  The next meeting is occurring concurrently with this PSA meeting.

Brochure
Continued to next meeting.

Signs
Karen Less reported that there is now money for directional and building signs.  The sign committee hopes to get three 8' information signs at three main entrances to campus, lettering on each building (6" letters), directional signs inside buildings in strategic locations, and map dispensers at key locations.

Next Meeting
Next general PSA meeting will be April 6, 2000, 2:00 PM on main campus.

LaDonna thanked John Beall for his continuing management of the PSA web page.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by LaDonna at 2:50 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Anne Williams
Secretary
