Meeting Minutes
CVCC Professional Staff Association Executive Committee
December 3, 1999
Personnel Conference Room
Members Present: LaDonna Goodson, Karen Less, Sue Asp, Judy Barkley, Mike Fein, Anne Williams.
LaDonna Goodson, President, opened the meeting.
LaDonna announced that Mike Fein will be leaving CVCC as of December 14, 1999. We will miss Mike from staff and from the Professional Staff Association. The by-laws now provide for the Executive Committee to fill the vacancy Mike will leave on the PSA Executive Committee. Karen Less moved that Doug Allen be asked to take the post. Mike seconded the motion and it was approved. Sue Asp will invite Doug.
The primary purpose of the meeting was to outline strategies to accomplish the 1999-2000 goals determined by the PSA membership. Anne Williams distributed results of the goals setting (attached). Strategies proposed by the Executive Committee appear below.
Goal #1: Pay Equity
Locally: Meet with Dr. Dunbar, then the CVCC Board of Trustees to request, once again, pay equity with the faculty.
Statewide:
1) Cooperate with Wake Tech's efforts to form a statewide coalition.
2) Encourage letter writing to the Governor, members of State legislative delegation, members of Appropriations and Education committees and subcommittees. Each Executive Committee member was asked to research names and addresses for a comprehensive list.
3) Consider meeting with our local legislative delegation.
Goal #2: Improve Campus Communications
1) Encourage in-service sessions that promote development of professional staff.
2) Seek to collaboratively establish career tracks appropriate for advancement of professional staff.
Goal #3: Develop and Implement Strategic Plan
Inquire as to the status of the proposals of the Executive Planning Committee, and if the proposals will be presented to faculty and staff. If so, when?
Goal #4: Publish Correct Salary Information
Inform Dr. Dunbar the information in the Policy & Procedure Manual is not up to date. Meet with Mike Kidd.
Goal #5: Network with Professional Staff in Other Colleges
Keep in contact with Wake Tech for plans to attend the statewide meeting when or if it is held in May, 2000.
Goal #6: PSA Information Brochure
Check with Bo to see what he has on the sample brochure. Form a committee to work on it. May seek help of new Public Relations Director.
Goal #7: Annual Appointments versus Contracts
Meet with Mike Kidd to begin investigation.
Goal #8: Outstanding Service Recognition
In the meeting with Dr. Dunbar, revisit the issue of performance pay for professional staff. Also, in conversation with colleagues across the state, inquire as to what other colleges are doing.
The recommendations will be presented to the membership at the January 20, 2000 meeting (2:00 p.m. in East Campus 1001).
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by LaDonna.
Respectfully submitted,
Anne Williams
Secretary
