Who should submit an Early Alert Referral?
Anyone concerned about a currently enrolled student.
When should I submit a referral?
At any point during the semester. Submission should be submitted as early as possible to maximize student success.
How do I submit a referral?
Fill out the referral form located in Blackboard.
What if my concern is not included on the list of choices?
Select ‘other’ and describe the issue in the comment box provided.
How will I know that my referral was successfully submitted?
An Early Alert Team member will respond to your referral within one to two business days.
What about confidentiality?
FERPA guidelines allow for a clear exception for any risks to health or safety. School officials may communicate concerns on a "need to know" basis.
Will my referral remain anonymous?
No. The student must be notified before a referral is made to the Early Alert Team.
What if I want to submit an additional referral on the same student during the same semester?
You may complete multiple forms for a student as needed.
Should I use early alert to report misconduct?
No, misconduct should be reported to the Dean of the School of Access, Development, and Success. This is in compliance with CVCC Policy 3.18, Student Conduct Policy.
What if the situation is an emergency?
The Early Alert form should not be used in the event of a true emergency. Immediate health and safety concerns should be referred to the Crisis Intervention Team or Campus Security.
Can I make an Early Alert referral if I am a student or staff member?
Yes, students and staff members may make Early Alert referrals by contacting Renee Neal directly at ext 4408 or by email at rneal@cvcc.edu.
