New Student Orientation 2014

If you have completed the following three steps, you may sign up for New Student Orientation. These three steps must be completed at least two weeks prior to coming to New Student Orientation.

  1. Attend a Starting Points Information Session (in person or online);
  2. Complete an Application for Admission to the College; and
  3. Meet face to face with an admission staff member in Student Services.

Then you can sign up for New Student Orientation below.

CVCC requires that first time college students attend NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (NSO) before registering for fall courses. Students have a registration block until an Orientation session has been completed, either in person on campus or online. The online version becomes available August 6, 2014.

The session is designed for YOU! (Not mom, not dad, not boyfriends/girlfriends, not your children.)

We offer 3 options for New Student Orientation. You choose the one which best suits your needs. Be sure to check the matching registration time as you need to be available to attend BOTH events.

  1. "On the Go": These Orientation sessions move at a quick pace and include a brisk walking tour of campus. Wear comfortable shoes and bring raingear if needed; tours happen rain or shine.
  2. "Watch & Learn": These sessions allow students who have been out of school for a while, or who desire a relaxed pace, to ask more questions, receive detailed technology instruction and watch a campus tour on video.There is no walking during the Watch & Learn NSO.
  3. "Just in Time": These last chance Orientations are identical to "On the Go" with one exception: Students do not have a reserved registration time in the Advising Center. Rather, students use the online sign up option on the Advising Center webpage for an appointment during the week of August 11-15. This week prior to the start of school is a busy time as currently enrolled AND new students are registering. Course selections may be limited this close to the start of the semester, August 18.

  • You need to sign up online IN ADVANCE for an Orientation session. (We make preparations, so walk-ins are not possible.) Prepare now to adjust your work schedule, make any childcare arrangements and check summer vacation plans. Students need to be available for BOTH Orientation and the Registration activity. The earlier you attend Orientation, the sooner you get to register for classes.
  • Choose a session. Pay close attention to the On the Go, Watch & Learn, and Just in Time sign up pages.
  • Check-in for each NSO session begins 30 minutes prior to the session start time. No late comers are admitted once the session begins. Sessions begin on time. Plan accordingly for travel time to campus and checking in to avoid the disappointment of having to reschedule due to tardiness.

When & Where?

REMEMBER: Check the Orientation date AND the reserved Registration time. You need to be able to come to campus for BOTH events. Check in for each Orientation session starts on the first floor of the Cuyler A. Dunbar building.
