Math and Science Learning Skills Specialists
Nena Babb is a native of Catawba County. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education at North Carolina State University. She taught Mathematics at various high schools in South Carolina and North Carolina for twelve years. Nena also earned a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics and Education from Appalachian State University. She began teaching at CVCC in 1999. She is currently the Mathematics Coordinator for the LAC.

Judy DeMico has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Spanish and a minor in Music. She also received an AA degree in computer repair and a core certification in Microsoft Office. Over the years Judy has obtained experience in working as a general secretary, medical secretary, and legal secretary. Judy is also a one-on-one tutor with our peer tutoring program where she began tutoring in 1997 and is now one of our master tutors. Judy tutors the following courses: MAT 050, 060, 0770, 080, 115, 140; SPA 111, 112, 211, 212; ENG 080, 090, 111, 113, 114; CTS 080; CIS 110; WEB 110.

David Propst is a full-time Learning Skills Specialist, working in the Learning Assistance Center on the first floor of the CAD building. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and has a background in industrial automation. David provides learning assistance in
Physics, Math (through Calc I),
Engineering, Networking, Computer Science (programming C++, JAVA, Visual C++, etc.),
Operating Systems, and
3D Computer Graphics (Maya, Blender, etc.). David also provides
assistive technology and
training on assistive equipment and software for qualified students.

Holly Shook moved to Catawba County in 2001. She is a graduate of CVCC and will be attending UNC Charlotte in the fall of 2009 to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Holly provides tutorial help for Chemistry students in the LAC.

Anna Russell is a part-time Math Learning Skills Specialist. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Mathematics from the State University of New York College at Cortland. Anna is certified to teach mathematics in public school grades six through twelve. She has taught Math 060 and Math 070 at CVCC. She has also led a supplemental instruction group for Math 140. Currently she is teaching two Math 070 classes.

John Spooner is an adjunct Math instructor at CVCC as well as a part-time Learning Skills Specialist. Over 20 years ago he moved from Ohio to the Hickory area. John has worked for Corning Cable Systems and Draka as well as other companies in the area. He holds a BS degree in physics from Miama University in Oxford, Ohio, a graduate degree in electrical engineering from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. John helps students with math in the LAC and also helps students with English in the Writing Center.

Randall "Randy" Williams provides tutorial help for Accounting and Math students. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting at Lenoir-Rhyne College and a Master of Science in Accounting from Appalachian State University. Randy has taught or is teaching ACC 120, 121, 140, 150, 220, 221, and 269; MAT 060 and 070.
