Pathways to Office Careers

This course provides employability skills training for unemployed and underemployed adults interested in office careers.  The content of instructional materials will focus on office occupations and addresses one or more of the following topics: office careers/education exploration; job seeking and keeping skills; goal setting; and, entry-level skills awareness, assessment, and development. Students will sharpen communication skills, prepare professional resumes, learn networking skills and participate in job search activities. Upon completion, this course may be linked with the Office Administration curriculum program or the Office Professional program.

Course Learning Outcomes:         

By completion of class, at a minimum, students will have:

  • Gained an understanding of the roles and duties of office occupations through a career exploration project
  • Learned and discussed trends in growth of office occupations
  • Learned and demonstrated how to set short term and long term realistic and positve goals
  • Learned effective job readiness and job-keeping skills that relate to office occupations, including practice of keyboarding skills, utilizing a laptop, in order to obtain and maintain successful employment
  • Learned and demonstrated effective communication techniques
  • Utilized KeyTrain software to access competency of telephone and work email skills
