Beg. Pen and Ink Illustrations

Designed as an introductory course into the use of ink as an illustrative tool, students will learn the basics of setting up an illustration, pen techniques, ink selection, and the application of color to a finished piece.  Classes will consist of demonstrations and guided work time.  Students will finish the course with at least one complete pen and ink illustration.

POTTERY CLASSES

Introduction to Catawba Valley Pottery

Designed to introduce the prospective potter to turning on the potters' wheel, glazing and firing techniques used in pottery making with particular emphasis on the methods and materials of the local Catawba Valley pottery tradition.  Topics include clay preparations, basic turning techniques, glaze applications and firing process are covered.  The registration cost is $65 and there is a supply fee of $35 which covers kiln firings, glaze materials and 25 pounds of clay as well as a $1.25 for accident insurance. In addition, students must purchase a tool kit. Student's should bring a towel and apron to class and dress in comfortable clothes that they don't mind getting dirty.  The instructor is Kim Ellington.
