Cooking Up a Storm (Rising 4th-6th Graders)

Food lovers stop here! Learn to be comfortable in the kitchen and gain useful cooking skills. Learn basic food safety, nutrition, measuring methods, utensil and food preparation terms, and using small appliances to prepare food. You will prepare fun foods and eat the treats you make in class. Whisk in a variety of ingredients, toss in a little fun, and season with imagination and soon you will be cooking up a storm while learning!

Published author and former classroom teacher Susan Woodring will guide students in every stage of poetry, story, and play writing, from brainstorming ideas to plot and character creation to finished work! Participants will engage in dynamic, cooperative, and fun activities to boost creativity. Participants will also learn about the world of publishing.

Digital Photography-Adv. (Ages 10-14)

Now that you are getting familiar with your camera, it's time to take-it-up-a-notch! We will revisit basic photography class topics briefly before moving on to advanced techniques, such as f-stops, lenses, depth-of-field, lighting, and other fundamental skills. Students will learn how to produce higher-quality digital images and to prepare their files for use in print or online, as well as professional editing workflows, techniques, and practices useful for taking their photography to the next level. Prerequisite: Digital Photography

Glitz and Glamour (Ages 8-11)

Join us in this fun-filled class of glitz and glamour where it is great to be a girl! Look good and feel great when you discover beauty from the inside out! Study the basics of hair care, skin care, nails, and makeup. You will be introduced to the latest hairstyling tips, learn a basic facial, perform a basic manicure, and practice makeup application. You will also find out how to build on your strengths, be well-groomed, exercise good manners and learn the latest fashion trends. Students must bring a brush and comb to class. Course ends with a mini-photo shoot!

Got Game? (Rising 5th-7th Graders)

Do you enjoy playing computer games and wonder how they are created? Then this camp is for you! In this four-day camp, Blaire Miller (instructor) will teach students the history of games and how the graphics are made. The students will then design their own games and share the likes and dislikes of game features. The camp will end on Thursday when the student brings a game from home and enjoys sharing their favorite game to other students. Space is limited so sign up early!

Learning with Legos (Rising 3rd & 4th Graders)

Students will be involved in a wonderful adventure using Lego blocks and books in this class. They will be learning while putting together fun and exciting projects with Legos. This class will be entertaining and educational! Writing, vocabulary, details, comprehension and higher-order thinking skills will be covered in innovative ways!

Let Go of My Robot (Rising 6th-8th Graders)

Students will be challenged to create a robot (using Lego's NXT Mindstorm materials) that will meet a variety of challenges. Towards week's end, we will create autonomous Sumo Bots. This is a great camp for teaching teamwork and preparing students for engineering and problem-solving challenges.

 Sewing-Beg. Level I (Ages 8-12)

Come join us in the sewing room for an introduction to sewing machine basics, hand sewing techniques, hemming and mending, buttons, pattern reading, and fabric choice. Use your creativity to make some simple projects such as a tote bag, pin cushion, and tissue holder. Sewing machines will be provided, but feel free to bring your own portable machine if you have one. A suggested list of sewing supplies will be available prior to the class. Space is limited to 10 students per class so register soon!
