Art of Anime-Japanimation (Ages 9-14)

The art of anime (Japanimation) is a style of art used by the Japanese. The eyes are exaggerated to almost a cartoonish look. You will explore this style and technique, develop some of your own characters, and draw some anime figures. Click here (PDF) for a supply list.

Back to School Hullabaloo (Rising 1st-4th Graders)

Using the skills and experiences of two veteran teachers, your student will get revved up for a great school year! Discover the fun of cupcake decorating and making the most stick-tacular cake pop treats. You will apply baking techniques to make your own cupcakes and cake pops and learn to use different decorating tools. Got Game? (Rising 5th-7th Graders)

Do you enjoy playing computer games and wonder how they are created? Then this camp is for you! In this four-day camp, Blaire Miller, (instructor) will teach students the history of games and how the graphics are made. The students will then design their own games and share the likes and dislikes of game features. The camp will end on Thursday when the student brings a game from home and enjoys sharing their favorite game to other students. Space is limited so sign up early!

Let Go of my Robot (Rising 6th - 8th Graders)

Students will be challenged to create a robot (using Lego's NXT Mindstorm materials) that will meet a variety of challenges. Toward week's end, we will create a autonomous Sumobot. This is a great camp for teaching teamwork and preparing students for engineering and problem-solving challenges.

Lights, Camera, Action! (Rising 4th-6th Graders)

Get ready to melt some faces! You will get an introduction to the software program, Garage Band and IMovie. Learn about the creative process as well as the basics of video and music production. You can record your own videos and create music that can be incorporated into your video project. By the end of the week, you will share your video/music project with each other. We ask each student to bring a USB flash drive (4 GB minimum). Rock on!

Taking Center Stage (Rising 3rd-5th Graders)

In this fast paced and fun class, young actors will have the chance to explore all aspects of theatre including: creation of character, improvisation, stage makeup, puppetry, and more! Participants will have plenty of opportunity to "perform" in short informal scenes throughout the week. The last day will end with a "sharing" to which family and friends will be invited. This camp will be under the direction of Sylvia Schnople who helped produce "Hairspray" and "Snoopy" at the Green Room in Newton. Come out and have some fun!

Teens Behind the Wheel (Ages 14-17) 

One out of every four 16-year old drivers in North Carolina is involved in an accident during the first year of driving. This class is designed to provide defensive driving training for new drivers to help improve their knowledge of safe driving principles and their driving skills. Three hours of classroom instruction (Thursday) and five hours of behind the wheel instruction (Saturday) are provided in this class. For the driving skill portion, students must bring a car and one parent is encouraged to attend.
