ACT Preparation (Rising 10th-12th Graders)
Give yourself the best advantage you can when you take the ACT. This class will provide an overview of the ACT test and recommend success strategies for teens. Students will review the topics on the ACT: math, science, English, reading, and writing. A book called "Kaplan ACT 2013: Strategies, Practice, and Review" is required. Also students need to bring a graphing calculator, pencil, highlighter and a notebook.

Students will enjoy a buffet of stories and poems that lend themselves to an all-time favorite pastime--Food! Through individual response, small group work, and whole-class discussion, students will read and interact with selected texts each day. The class will then prepare and eat a tasty treat that links to the day's lesson like butter on toast. This class offers a fun and unique way to practice reading skills in the classroom and in the kitchen. Throw a pinch of math and a dash of writing, and you will be on your way to becoming a true literary chef.

Coming to a Theatre Near You! Edmodo, Trailers & Vokis (Rising 5th-8th Graders)
Students will learn to become 21st Century digital citizens by using Edmodo and accessing copyright friendly graphics and music to produce book trailers and Vokis. Participants are expected to bring a favorite chapter book and at least a four gigabyte flash drive/jump drive to class for storing graphics and presentations.

Glitz and Glamour for Girls (Ages 12-14)
Girls rule in this stylish class where everyone is sure to have a blast! Look good and feel great when you discover beauty from the inside out! Study the basics of hair care, skin care, nails, and makeup. You will be introduced to the latest hairstyling tips, learn a basic facial, perform a basic manicure, and practice makeup application. You will also find out how to build your strengths, be well-groomed, exercise good manners and learn the latest fashion trends. Course ends with a mini-photo shoot! Students are asked to bring a brush and comb to the class.

Passport to Spanish (Rising 4th - 6th Graders)
Hola! In this dynamic class, students will gain a basic understanding of the Spanish language, cultural manners, common vocabulary, general language rules, commonly used expressions and phrases for basic conversation. You will have fun learning basic step dances, learning about costumes, listening and singing songs, and tasting four dishes and learning some expression from Mexico, Spain, Peru, and Costa Rica.

Think and act like a scientist through hands-on activities, discovery, and exploration. Students will explore the principles of physical science through unique experiments using sandwich bags. Learn how air bags and seat belts work together; investigate how a simple polymer forms; observe a chemical change in matter; and explore a physical change in matter and make slime. Students are asked to bring a box of sandwich ziplock bags.
