911! Help is on the Way--Paramedic Adventure (Ages 10-14)

Students will receive a basic training in first aid and will also be exposed to the emergency services profession and get to see equipment and tour an ambulance. Students will also learn about some of the dangers that face them in their homes and while they are outside including how to recognize signs and symptoms that someone is suffering from a heat related emergency. They will also learn the importance of proper hydration, especially during the summer months while they are home from school. Lastly, students will learn what happens when they call 911 and how ambulances are dispatched and how they find their homes.

Passport to Spanish (Rising 4th-6th Graders)

Hola! In this dynamic class, students will gain a basic understanding of the Spanish language, cultural manners, common vocabulary, general language rules, commonly used expressions and phrases for basic conversation. You will have fun learning basic step dances, learning about costumes, listening and singing songs, and tasting four dishes and learning some expressions from Mexico, Spain, Peru, and Costa Rica.

Reader's Theater (Rising 1st-2nd Graders)

Using theater games and your imagination, Reader's Theater is an exciting way to help you improve reading fluency. Students are spared the stress of having to memorize lines and can focus on developing a strong, dynamic and expressive reading while having fun acting the part. This class emphasizes reading aloud with expression along with follow-up activities, strengthening key skills in reading, fluency, comprehension, and listening skills.

Old t-shirts, cereal containers, and shopping bags all sound like trash. What do you do with them? Turn them into artful, useful objects, of course! In this class, students will learn new ways of using things that would normally be thrown out is determined by what they SEE in objects commonly called "trash". Students will use art skills, imagination and some simple math to make fun and interesting projects: a carrying case, cool messenger bag, creative book covers your friends will love and more! Each class will conclude with a student presentation and gallery walk where students will be able to look more closely at each other's projects, ask questions, and, of course, teach each other about what they have created!

String Fun! (Ages 8-11)

Who knew that you could do so many things with just a piece of string! Learn interesting, entertaining, and useful ways to work with a piece of string with amazing results. This course will combine art skills, math, hand-eye coordination, and lots of imagination as it challenges students with many fun projects from around the world: simple toys, a secret message carrier, and even shoestrings, to name a few! The class will conclude with a student presentation and gallery walk where students will be able to look more closely at each other's projects, ask questions, and--of course--teach other about what they have created!
