Admission Requirements
These minimum requirements must be met prior to being considered for competitive selection for the ADN program. Please contact Student Services for deadline date and information packet 828-327-7000 ext 4216.
Applicants must complete ALL of the following requirements to be considered for admissions.
- Applicants must complete the CVCC application for admission and the application must be received in Student Services. Applications completed on-line will NOT be processed until applicant comes in and meets with a Student Services counselor prior to the application deadline (Dec. 1, 2011).
- Applicants must be high school graduates or have received a GED. An official high school transcript showing the graduation date or an official copy of the GED scores must be received by CVCC. To be considered official, transcripts must be received by the College in a sealed envelope or they will not be accepted. The high school transcript requirement is waived for applicants who have graduated from a regionally accredited two-year or four-year college.
- Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges must be received by CVCC. To be considered official, transcripts must be received by the College in a sealed envelope or they will not be accepted. Grades less than "C" are not transferable. Transcripts will not be evaluated for transfer credit until all transcripts are received in Student Records.
- Applicants who do not meet exemptions must take the required Reading, Writing, Math and Computer Competency placement tests. Applicants must either place out of or complete the following courses to be considered for the ADN program: RED 070, 080, 090; ENG 070, 080, 090/090A; MAT 050, 060, 070; CTS 080.
- Applicants must complete or have completed one year of biology in high school* or one course in biology at CVCC or another college* with a minimum grade of "C" (*official transcript must be provided).
- Applicants must complete or have completed one year of chemistry in high school* or one course in chemistry at CVCC or another college* with a minimum grade of "C" (*official transcript must be provided).
- Applicants, who have taken coursework at CVCC or are currently enrolled in coursework at CVCC, must have a minimum cumulative (overall) grade point average of 2.50 on all CVCC coursework.
- All applicants must attend a Nursing Information Session. Attendance at an information session is mandatory to meet minimum requirements to be considered for admission to CVCC's Nursing Program. The 2012 information sessions will be held monthly beginning September 2011 and ending January 2012. Please check the School of Health Services/Nursing web page for exact dates, times, and locations.
Applicants who have met the December 1, 2011 deadline must complete ALL admission requirements by January 31, 2012. Completion of all admission requirements is not a guarantee of acceptance.
Applicants who complete ALL the above by the specified deadline will be invited to take the required TEAS 5.0 (Test of Essential Academic Skills) Exam. The non-refundable fee for this exam is $25. Qualified applicants will be notified by mail and/or e-mail regarding the scheduling of this exam. TEAS 5.0 Review Books can be purchased through the CVCC Bookstore (The TROVE). Applicants not admitted for Fall must see a Student Services Counselor to re-apply if they wish to be considered for the next class. CVCC does NOT use waiting lists for any allied health program. Health program applicants must re-apply for each year they wish to be considered for admission.
