Explore, discover and create out-of-the-ordinary paintings using lots of expression and imagination. Students will experiment with paint, color and design to create their own abstract masterpieces. No perfection is needed as we watch the magic develop in the art studio.

Catawba Valley Community College has joined with Catawba Valley Health System and Safe Kids of Catawba County in hosting a Babysitting 101 camp. This class will prepare students, ages 12-16, for the responsibilities of babysitting. This course covers the basics of babysitting, home safety, age appropriate games and toys, and tips for preventing common childcare problems. By the end of the class, students will receive certifications in AHA Pediatric First Aid and Child/Infant CPR/AED. Students need to bring a baby doll and baby blanket or small towel to first class session.

In this two-week camp, students will explore the wonderful world of clay. In the first week, students will create their own clay pieces by using the hand building methods of coiling, pinching, and slabs. During the second week, students will complete their pieces by using glazing techniques. A demonstration of the potter's wheel will take place during this week. At the end of the two-week camp, student's completed pieces will be fired and available for pickup.

With a week of clay, students will use a variety of techniques in clay to produce functional pottery. Students will create pieces using wheel throwing, slab-building, pinch pots, and coiling. Students will take home fully glazed, ready to use pieces at the end of the week.

Food lovers, stop here! Learn to be comfortable in the kitchen and gain useful cooking skills. Learn basic food safety, nutrition, measuring methods, utensil and food preparation terms, and using small appliances to prepare food. You will prepare fun foods and eat the treats you make in class. Whisk in a variety of ingredients, toss in a little fun, season with imagination and soon you will be cooking up a storm while learning!
