Contrary to what you may believe, banks Are lending. But not to everyone who asks. You can increase your odds of success with your business loan request simply by understanding how the banker views your request. Byron Hicks, former commercial lender for two regional NC banks, will share an insider’s perspective on understanding and communicating your financial need, building your loan package, preparing for your meeting with the banker, and risk assessment from the lender’s perspective.

SIFE Competition April 2, 2012
Students in Free Enterprise, or SIFE, is an international organization devoted to teaching others about the free enterprise system. Each spring, SIFE teams across the country convene in regional competitions, delivering project presentations before a panel of distinguished business executives. 2012 marks the twenty-first year CVCC SIFE has engaged in competition. This year’s team members are Tim Abernethy, Roberta Handlin, Joann Testerman, and Katherine Yang. Out of approximately 350 SIFE teams competing nationwide, only twenty-eight are from community colleges, so please cheer for our team as they try to “beat the odds” against major universities such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Georgia Tech at the SIFE Regional Competition in Atlanta, Georgia on April 2!
Be the next CVCC "Shark Tank" Contestant March 30, 2012

2011 CVCC Shark Tank Event was a Big Success for Students, College and the Community
We were very pleased with the response to our first event. We had over 30 people present business ideas, which were evaluated and a group of 16 were asked to make a 3-5 minute elevator pitch to our business faculty. The faculty panel selected the finalists as well as our Faculty Champion and a Youth Champion.
On April 20th, the finalists made a presentation to a panel of key business leaders in our community. We had 7 student finalists, who made presentations and answered questions fron our panel. All of our finalists made outstanding presentations and we believe will be successful in starting their proposed businesses.
The competition was very strong and the final results were very close.
Our first CVCC Shark Tank champion is Kim Kelley and her Edible Landscaping business. Kim was presented with a plaque and a $1,000 scholarship to CVCC.
Our first runner-up was Kristen Bearfield of KB Photography. Kristen was presented with a plaque and a $700 scholarship.
Our second runner-up was Karen Cooper of Monumental Floral. Karen was presented with a plaque and a $300 scholarship.
Our scholarships were made possible by the sponsorship of our Shark Tank by Peoples Bank. The scholarships were presened by Tony Wolfe, president of Peoples Bank.
