Tri-match at CVCC vs. Pitt CC and Surry CC Saturday, October 09, 2010
The CVCC Lady Buccaneers hosted Pitt Community College and Surry Community College on Saturday, October 09, 2010 for a conference tri-match. Both Pitt and Surry came into today's match unbeaten in conference play.
The CVCC Bucs took on the Pitt Bulldogs during the opening match. Both teams came out strong playing with lots of energy, but Pitt took the first game 25-20. The Bucs battled back in the second game overcoming the Bulldogs 26-24. A slow start hurt the CVCC Bucs in the third game allowing the Pitt Bulldogs to take an early lead that the Bucs couldn't recover from. The Lady Bulldogs won it, 25-15. In the fourth game, the Bucs picked up their game and won 25-21. Intensity was high in the final game as the two teams battled back and forth, but the Bucs persevered to take the match 15-11 and give Pitt their first conference loss of the year.
Leading the offense was Francesca Edgerton with 11 kills for the match. Breckin Settlemyer was strong with 10 killls, and Erin Collins added 8 more. On the block, Breckin Settlemyer dominated with 9 total blocks for the match. Francesca Edgerton had 6 blocks. Carolyn Houser led the team in the assists category with 35 for the match. The defensive team worked together, with Erin Collins leading in digs with 21. Sarah Marshall had 20, Carolyn Houser had 15 and Darla Skidmore had 14 digs.
Pitt CC and Surry CC played the next match, and Pitt won 25-21, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-11 giving Surry their first conference loss.
In the final match-up of the day, the CVCC Buccaneers took on the Knights of Surry Community College. CVCC came out hot in the first game, winning 25-16. The Bucs continued to dominate in the second game, winning 25-11. Surry came out strong in the third game, winning 20-25. CVCC refocused in the fourth game and cruised to a 25-9 to complete the sweep of the tri-match.
Francesca Edgerton led the offensive attack with 13 kills for the match. Megan Clark had 9 and Breckin Settlemyer added 8. Francesca Edgerton also led the block with 6 and Breckin Settlemyer contributed 5. Carolyn Houser and Chelsea Stutesman shared assists with 19 and 10 respectively. Sarah Marshall shut down the Knight's offense with 20 digs for the match. Erin Collins added 10 digs and led the team in serving with 5 aces.
The Buc's improve their conference record to 8-1 and their overall record to 15-3. The CVCC Lady Buccaneers travel to Guilford Tech Community College on Tuesday, October 12th for another conference match before returning home on Saturday, October 16th to compete against Rockingham Community College in a 2:00 match. The Buc's "Dig Pink" campaign continues during the month of October as they raise awareness and support for breast cancer. They will also participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, October 16th.

CVCC’s Lady Buccaneers hosted the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales University Thursday, October 07, 2010 in a 7:00 non-conference match. The Bucs kicked off their "Dig Pink" campaign at the match by recognizing breast cancer survivors and those who have passed away from the disease, with roses and special music during intermission between games 2 and 3. A special thank you to everyone who helped to make this event a success. The "Dig Pink" campaign will continue during the entire month of October at home matches.
The Lady Buccaneers won in three games with scores 25-12, 25-21, and 25-11. Offense was led by Francesca Edgerton who had 11 kills for the match. Megan Clark had 10 and Breckin Settlemyer contributed 8. Carolyn Houser posted 23 assists. Defensive specialist Darla Skidmore dug up 10 balls to lead the defensive game for the Bucs. Sarah Marshall had 8 digs and Erin Collins had 6.

Bucs Come Back To Beat Tech 3 to 2 Sets
On Tuesday, October 5, 2010, the CVCC Lady Buccaneers Volleyball Team travelled to Raleigh for a 7:00 conference match against Wake Tech Community College.
The Bucs were sluggish in the first game and lost 18-25. Communication issues continued into the second game resulting in a close loss of 24-26. The Bucs rebounded in the third game and dominated at the net winning with a commanding score of 25-14. Intensity continued into the fourth and fifth games for the Bucs and they came out on top with scores of 26-24 and 15-12.
Leading the offensive game for the Bucs was Francesca Edgerton with 16 kills. Megan Clark added 11 kills. Carolyn Houser posted 23 assists. Erin Collins completed 29 serves and had 6 aces. Collins also led in the dig category with 17 for the match. Sarah Marshall had 14 digs, Darla Skidmore had 9, and Alannya Meroney contributed 8. On the block, Francesca Edgerton put down 6 blocks and Breckin Settlemyer had 4. The Bucs record is now 6-1 conference and 12-3 overall. The Lady Bucs kick off their "Dig Pink" breast cancer awareness and support campaign on Thursday night, October 7th at 7:00 against Johnson and Wales University. Brooke Caldwell will provide inspirational music during intermission and will donate a portion of the proceeds from her CD sales to the "Dig Pink" campaign. All proceeds from admission will also support the cause.

CVCC- Falls to DCC 1 set to 3
The CVCC Lady Buccaneers travelled to Davidson County Community College for a tri-match Saturday, October 02, 2010 against Davidson CCC and Johnston CC.
In the first match against Davidson, communication errors and inconsistency caused major problems for the Bucs and they lost the first two sets 19-25 and 11-25. "We weren’t talking or playing together as a team", reports Coach Shannon Hudson. "We were up and down all day and had a difficult time with consistent serving." The Bucs battled back in the third game and won it 25-21 before falling short in the fourth set 19-25.
Francesca Edgerton led the team in kills with 11. Megan Clark added 8. Breckin Settlemyer led in the blocks category with 5 for the match. Carolyn Houser posted 20 assists. Defensively, Sarah Marshall had 13 digs, Erin Collins had 12, and Darla Skidmore added 9 more.
CVCC Beats Johnston 3 sets to 1
CVCC rebounded and came out strong against Johnston Community College winning the first 2 sets 25-17 and 25-11. The Bucs slacked off in the third set and the Jaguars of JCC took advantage winning 25-23. The Bucs finished off the match with a 25-23 score in the fourth game.
Kills were shared between Francesca Edgerton with 12, Megan Clark with 11, and Erin Collins with 8. Carolyn Houser put up 22 assists and Chelsea Stutesman added 14. In the dig category, libero Sarah Marshall led the way with 25. Erin Collins contributed 19 digs and Alannya Meroney had 9.

Francesca Edgerton also led the team in kills with 9 for the match and Breckin Settlemyer had 6 kills and 4 block solos.
