2009 Volleyball Highlights

CVCC Lady Bucs’ Volleyball team hosted its 2nd Annual Alumni Match, Friday night, August 21, 2009. The event began with a cookout for friends to get reacquainted and to introduce the 2009 Lady Buccaneer’s.

Alumni participants included All-Americans Terri Ferber and Christina Carrier. Also participating were Lindsey Reel (’03-’04), Katie Lineberger and April Carpenter (’05-’06), Laura Tipon (’06), Brittney Shook (’06-’07), Kayleigh Brown (’07), Shannon Gregory (’07-’08) and Tabby Pope (’08).

The 2009 Lady Bucs’ dominated the first game of the match, winning 25-16. During the second game, the Alumni Team caught fire and won 25-21. The 2009 Lady Bucs’ rebounded and took control of the match winning the next two games, 25-19 and 25-15.

Francesca Edgerton led the team in kills with 11 total for the match. Samantha Lo recorded 7 kills and 5 serving aces. Ali Bruns led the team in digs.

The Lady Bucs’ will travel to Piedmont Baptist College on Friday, August 28, 2009 for their last scrimmage game before beginning regular season play. Game time is 6:00 p.m.

The Lady Bucs’ will open the regular season play at home on Saturday, September 5, 2009, when they host a tri-match with Toccoa Falls and Vance-Granville Community College. Play begins at 12:00 p.m.

9/5/09 CVCC vs Taccoa Falls and Vance-Granville Community College

The Lady Buccaneers came out strong in their 2009 season Tri-match opener on Saturday, September 5th.

Vance-Granville Community College and Toccoa Falls College joined the Bucs in the Tri-Match, as CVCC defeated Vance-Granville in three straight games but lost to Toccoa Falls in the 5th game (tie breaker).

CVCC vs. VG 25-6, 25-13, 25-14

CVCC vs. TF 22-25, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 8-15

Freshman Fran Edgerton led the team with 8 kills against Vance-Granville, as Freshman Megan Smith picked up 6 kills and 3 aces and Sophomore Samantha Lo followed with 6 kills of her own. Freshman Aleisha Gentry added 10 aces to CVCC's score. Sophomore Ali Bruns defended Catawba Valley's court in digs.

During the match against Toccoa Falls, Freshman Fran Edgerton again led the team with 13 kills and 6 blocks, while Freshman Megan Smith brought 9 kills, 4 aces, and 3 blocks to the court. Samantha Lo handled the ball well with 9 kills and 4 blocks.

The Lady Bucs will be traveling the entire month of September with away games. Their next match is a tri-match at Davidson County Community College with Johnston Community college joining in. CVCC plays at 12:00 and 4:00.

9/12/09 CVCC vs Johnston CC and Davison County CC

The CVCC Lady Bucs traveled to Davidson County Community College for a Tri-Match against Davidson and Johnston Community College. The Lady Bucs came out strong, winning the first match against Johnston Community College with scores of 22-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-16

Freshman Fran Edgerton led the Bucs with 11 kills and 9 blocks. Sophomore Samantha Lo followed with 10 kills and 7 digs. Freshman See Chang added to the win with 31 assists and 2 aces.

CVCC played a tight match with Davidson County taking it all the way to a 5 game stretch. The Lady Bucs held on to the end, but ended up losing in the final set of a tough match:  25-19, 11-25, 23-25, 25-23, 10-15

Freshman Megan Smith brought 16 kills to the court along with 8 blocks and 3 digs. Freshman Fran Edgerton followed with 12 kills, 10 blocks and 6 digs. Freshman See Chang led the team with 26 assists and 11 digs.

The Lady Bucs' record is 2-0 in conference play and 2-2 overall. Their next game is Monday, September 14th at Vance-Granville at 6pm.

The CVCC Lady Bucs dominated against the Vance-Granville Vanguards Monday night, September 14th, with scores of 25-14, 25-5, 25-16.
   
Their serving game was on, as Freshman Megan Smith led the Bucs with 8 straight service aces.  Freshman Fran Edgerton and  Sophomore Samantha Lo had 4 kills each.
Sophomore Ali Bruns defended the Bucs court with 8 digs, while 
Freshman See Chang led with 18 assists, bringing their record to 3-2.
 
CVCC's next match is Wednesday, September 16th at Spartanburg Methodist College at 7pm.

The CVCC Lady Bucs traveled to Spartanburg Methodist College Wednesday to compete against the Spartanburg Pioneers. The Pioneers took a quick 6-0 lead in the first set of the match, but the Lady Bucs bounced back for a 25-19 win. CVCC dominated the last two sets of the match winning 25-17 and 25-19. Freshman Fran Edgerton led the team with 10 kills and 4 blocks, followed by freshman Megan Smith with 7 kills. Sophomore Samantha Lo had 5 kills and 2 blocks, as freshman MaKayla Sales had 4 kills. Sophomore Ali Bruns defended the court with 21 digs and freshman Darla Skidmore contributed with 11. Freshman See Chang played an amazing match with 10 digs, 2 service aces, 2 blocks and 22 assists.

The Lady Bucs record now stands at 3-0 in conference and 4-2 overall. CVCC travels to Rockingham Community College Friday, September 18th at 6 PM for their next match.

9/29/9 CVCC vs Surry Community College

The stakes were high as the undefeated in conference CVCC Lady Bucs traveled to Surry Community College to face the undefeated Lady Knights. The battle for the lead in Conference standings was fierce as The Knights took a lead in game 1, but the Lady Bucs prevailed and swept the Knights in 3 hard fought sets with close scores of 25-23. 25-21, 25-23. 

Leading Ladies for the Bucs included Freshman Megan Smith with 15 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces and 2 digs. Freshman Fran Edgerton contributed with 7 kills, 5 digs and 1 block, as Sophomore Samantha Lo had 5 kills and 8 digs. Freshman See Chang led with 29 assists and added 4 kills, 4 digs, 1 block and 1 ace. 

The Lady Bucs brought their record to 8-2 overall and UNDEFEATED in conference play after defeating The Knights. 

CVCC's next game is Friday, October 2 at Piedmont Baptist at 1 PM and 3 PM

Friday, 10/2/9 Piedmont Baptist College Tri-Match

The Lady Buccaneers Volleyball team traveled to Piedmont Baptist College for a tri-match against Piedmont Baptist and Florida Christian College.

The CVCC Bucs continue to dominate as they took on the Lady Conquerors in their 1st match. Competition was fierce but the Lady Bucs prevailed winning 25-22, 25-24, 25-11. 

Contributing to the victory was Freshman Fran Edgerton with 11 kills and 8 blocks, followed by Freshman Megan Smith's 7 kills, 3 digs and 2 blocks. Sophomore Samantha Lo added 7 kills and 10 digs. Working for the Bucs on defense was Sophomore Ali Bruns with 14 digs. Other notable stats include Freshman See Chang with 28 assists.

CVCC continued to dominate as they played their second match of the day against Florida Christian College. After a slow start in the first set with a score of 25-21, The Bucs finished strong with scores of 25-21, 25-20.

Freshman Megan Smith dominated the court with 10 kills and 3 blocks, as Freshman Fran Edgerton aided with 9 kills and 6 blocks. Freshman See Chang led with 24 assists and added 6 digs and 4 blocks. Sophomore Ali Bruns handled the court defensively with 15 digs.

These games brought the Lady Bucs record to 10-2 overall.

Saturday, 10/3/09 CVCC vs Florida Christian College

The morning started off with Mr. Tom Shields serving up some delicious pancakes and hot coffee for all spectators before the 10:00 match. He got a perfect score from all of us! Now for the VB match...

The CVCC Lady Bucs continued their winning streak by defeating Florida Christian College in a heavy five set match with scores of 25-16, 29-27, 19-25, 21-25, 15-6.

Leading the way for the Bucs was Freshman Fran Edgerton with 12 kills and 4 blocks, Sophomore Samantha Lo followed with 7 kills and 9 digs, as Freshman Megan Smith aided with 6 kills and 9 blocks. Sophomore Cierra Surratt contributed with 5 kills and 3 blocks. Freshman See Chang led the team with 30 assists, 5 kills and 2 blocks.

This win brings their record to 11-2 overall and UDEFEATED in conference.  Keep it up ladies!

The Lady Bucs' next game is Wednesday, October 7th at CVCC against Spartanburg Methodist College at 7 pm.

10/7/9  CVCC vs Spartanburg Methodist College

The CVCC Lady Bucs hosted Spartanburg Methodist College on Wednesday night, October 7th. CVCC had to scramble to pull out their 3 set victory winning 25-20, 25-22, 26-24. Freshman Megan Smith led the Lady Bucs with 9 kills and 6 blocks, followed by freshman Fran Edgerton with 8 kills and 6 blocks.  Sophomore Ali Bruns defended the court with 16 digs as freshman Darla Skidmore contributed with 9. Freshman See Chang led the team with 25 assists.  Their record is now 12-2 and still undefeated in conference play. CVCC travels to Toccoa Falls College Friday, October 9th at 4:00 PM for their next match.

 10/9/9 CVCC vs Toccoa Falls College 

The CVCC Lady Bucs traveled to Toccoa Falls where they fell short in a 3 straight set match to the Lady Eagles. Their efforts were lacking in the first set as they lost 17-25. They battled back in the 2nd set but were defeated 24-26. The Eagles sealed the match winning 22-25 in the last set. Freshman Fran Edgerton scored 9 kills, 8 blocks and 4 digs as freshman Megan Smith added 5 kills, 5 blocks and 5 digs. Sophomore Sam Lo led the team defensively with 9 digs and had 4 kills. This game brings the Lady Bucs record to 12-3 overall. _____________________________________________________

The CVCC Lady Bucs traveled to Guilford Technical Community College to play a Tri-match against Guilford Tech and Louisburg College.  The Lady Bucs fell short in the first match by being defeated in a three straight set match.  CVCC gained two victories for their record by winning by forfeit to Louisburg.

  Their efforts were lacking in the first set as they lost 16-25. They battled back in the 2nd set but were defeated 24-26. The Lady Titans sealed the match winning 16-25 in the last set. Freshman Fran Edgerton scored 14 kills and 2 blocks as freshman Megan Smith added 6 kills and 3 digs.  The Bucs were led defensively by Darla Skidmore, Ali Bruns, and Aleisha Gentry, all contributing  8 digs.  

These games bring the Lady Bucs record to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play..

10/14  CVCC vs Rockingham CC

The CVCC Lady Bucs hosted Rockingham Community College tonight where they defeated them in three straight sets winning  25-10, 25-19, 25-10. 

Leading the way for the Bucs was Freshman Megan Smith with 13 kills and 10 digs and Sophomore Samantha Lo followed with 8 kills.  Freshman See Chang led the team with 14 assists and had 7 digs.   

This win brings their record to 14-4.

10/15  CVCC vs Piedmont Baptist

The CVCC Lady Buccaneers Volleyball team hosted Piedmont Baptist College Thursday night, October 15th. 

The Lady Bucs continue to dominate as they took on the Lady Conquerors winning 25-18, 25-18, 17-25, 25-21. 

Contributing to the victory was Freshman Megan Smith with 10 kills and 2 digs, followed by Freshman Fran Edgerton and sophmore Samantha Lo with 6 killseach.  Working for the Bucs on defense was Sophomore Ali Bruns with 17 digs and Freshamn Darla Skidmore with 9 digs.  Other noteable stats include Freshman See Chang with 28 assists. 

This win brings the Lady Bucs rocord to 14-4 overall. 

The Buccaneers will host Lenior Community College on Saturday October 17th at 2pm.

10/17  CVCC vs Lenoir Community College

The CVCC Lady Bucs dominated against the Lenoir Community College Lancers Saturday afternoon, October 17th, with scores of 25-18, 25-15, 17-25, 25-17.

 

Freshman Megan Smith paced the Lady Bucs with a season high of 18 kills and contributed 7 digs, 4 blocks and 3 aces. Sophomore Cierra Surratt aided with 10 kills and 4 blocks.

Sophomore Ali Bruns defended the Bucs court with 15 digs as

Freshman See Chang led with 24 assists.

This victory brings CVCC's record to 16-4 overall and 9-0 in conference play.

CVCC's next match is Wednesday, October 21st at CVCC against Guilford Tech. Community College at 7pm.
