FINE and applied ARTS
Every student seeking a music degree from CVCC must participate in four of the musical ensembles listed below before graduation.
The CVCC Chorale is a group of approximately 30 vocalists drawn from throughout the community. It performs traditional choral arrangements, show tunes, masterworks--the musical gamut. The Chorale meets fall semester and usually produces a Christmas program in collaboration with other local choirs resulting in a mass chorale experience of 100 or more voices and an orchestra.
CVCC Show Choir
An auditioned group of approximately 14 vocalists make up the CVCC Show Choir who perform Broadway musical numbers dressed in specially designed costumes. The group performs both song and dance. Members are selected by audition each April. Participation requires a minimum of seven hours per week of rehearsal plus an unusually heavy concert schedule. Show Choir members are also required to take voice at the college and be enrolled in one other ensemble. This is a contracted group for one school year. In exchange for participation, students receive full tuition scholarships and partial funding for a spring travel tour. Interested students should call Mike Kirby for an interview and audition appointment. Three written recommendations and a 2.5 grade point average are required.
CVCC Singing Men
CVCC Singing Men is a non-auditioned group of men who perform a wide variety of musical styles. These guys are great and have a wonderful time performing and rehearsing together under the direction of Mike Kirby. CVCC Singing Men runs one semester every other year.
CVCC Jazz Choir
A new vocal ensemble, the CVCC Jazz Choir will run one semester every other year. This group will perform vocal jazz and acapella numbers and will be available to sing for various clubs and organizations in the semester that it runs.
