Books Given Away at World Book Night April 23

Catawba Valley Community College will participate in World Book Night on April 23 by offering students, faculty, staff and the community free books. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the West Wing Commons on the CVCC Main Campus in Hickory.

Sponsored by the English Department, World Book Night is an ambitious campaign to encourage reading by light and non-readers. A half million free paperbacks will be handed out across America all on one day—April 23—to promote reading.
The 35 titles to be given away on World Book Day were chosen by an independent panel of booksellers and librarians, with input from last year’s givers. This year’s book selection is more diverse than ever, including a graphic novel, a university press pick, and the first book by an Asian-American author. There are books in English and Spanish, and two of the picks will also be available in large print editions.
