Kirby Receives PICA/Weese Scholarship



Catawba Valley Community College Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology student Joseph Kirby recently received the PICA/Weese Scholarship.

PICA stands for Printing Industries of the Carolinas. The organization’s mission is to protect and promote the printing industry and to help printing companies and professionals prosper.

Kirby was presented the $500 scholarship recently by Jeff Stoudt, president of PICA, based in Charlotte.

“The PICA/Weese Scholarship was established in 1985 honoring PICA’s retiring director of
finance Ms. Freda Weese, after 21 years of loyal and continuous service,” said Stoudt. “Since 1992, the PICA Foundation has awarded PICA/Weese scholarships to assist young people who choose to pursue a degree in graphic communications at community colleges in the Carolinas.”
 
The PICA/Weese Scholarship is open to first or second year students enrolled in graphics at
Central Piedmont Community College, Catawba Valley Community College, Forsyth Tech, or
Lenoir Community College, Midlands Tech, Spartanburg Tech or Trident Tech. Four $500
scholarships are available each year.
