Executive Director Morello Attends Harvard Leadership Program

Chanell Morello, executive director of Catawba Valley Community College’s Learning & Personal Enrichment Innovation Center, recently received a Higher Education Professional Engagement Grant (HEPEG) Award from the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education at Nova Southeastern University.

With the grant, Morello was able to attend Harvard Graduate School of Education’s four-day experiential leadership program “Inner Strengths of Successful Leaders,” held at the Cambridge, Mass., campus.

The HEPEG grant supports minority doctoral students as they engage in a variety of Leadership Development Activities (LDA) in preparation for meaningful leadership roles in higher education. The HEPEG award is funded through Title V-B Fischler Grant Project to promote post-baccalaureate opportunities and education quality for Hispanics and other minorities.

Morello joined CVCC’s faculty in 2012 as director of Basic Skills Education. She was promoted to her current position in June. She earned her bachelor’s degree at New York University and a master’s degree from Barry University. She is currently a doctoral student at Nova Southeastern University.

She and her husband and daughter live in Newton.
