NC Back to Work Offers Industry-Recognized Credentials

Catawba Valley Community College is offering the NC Back To Work program for any North Carolina resident who is unemployed, underemployed (earns less than $22, 980), a veteran or a member of the National Guard, to learn skills for high demand jobs in Catawba and Alexander counties.

NC Back-to-Work provides state grant funded job training and retraining to earn industry-recognized credentials and employability skills, including the NC Career Readiness Certificate, through June 30, 2014.

The program offers short-term training that qualifies completers for rapidly changing positions in industry. It helps completers to gain additional skills to become more competitive in our rapidly changing job market, according to grant coordinator Donna Gilbert.

“We’re hearing from industry that they need people, but the skills required have changed,” said Gilbert. “Manufacturing is more advanced than it was 10 to 15 years ago and requires workers who are familiar with computers and other automated equipment. Those who have been chronically unemployed can get that kind of training with us.”
