Student & Staff Literary Works Featured in Wild Goose Review

The writing of two Catawba Valley Community College students and two employees has been published in the summer 2013 issue of the online literary journal “Wild Goose Poetry Review” available at

A review of Carol Matos' book of poems “The Hush Before the Animals Attack” by student Patricia Deaton of Hickory, as well as two of Deaton’s own poems, are featured.  Student Kelly DeMaegd of Sherrill's Ford has a poem included as well.

Tim Peeler, who serves as the Learning Assistance Center Director, has three poems from his new manuscript “Rough Beast” in the journal. Peeler serves as the director of CVCC’s Learning Assistance Center and has authored six books of poetry and four regional baseball histories.

Brenda Smith, whose prose pieces have been published widely, has a review of ASU professor Hilda Downer's new book of poems “Sky Under the Roof” in the journal.  Smith is an adjunct developmental English and reading faculty member.

“Wild Goose Poetry Review” has been published quarterly since 2006 and has a subscription in excess of 500 readers.  Editor Scott Owens is an adjunct CVCC English faculty member, author of 10 collections of poetry, Founder of Poetry Hickory, and the recipient of numerous poetry awards.
