Hoerr Receives 2013 Academic Excellence Award

Catawba Valley Community College student Jill C. Hoerr recently received the Academic Excellence Award by the N.C. Community College System in Raleigh.

Hoer is one of 58, one from each community college, who received an Academic Excellence Award.  Selection requirements are consistent with Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society criteria.

“Student success is our highest priority,” says Dr. Scott Ralls, NC Community College System President. “The students we are honoring with these awards are changing their lives, working toward their goals and finding their own individual success. This is what our community colleges were founded on, and 50 years later, we are proud to recognize these students as carrying on that tradition.”

A native of Peoria, Ill., Hoerr graduates with associate degree in Respiratory Therapy this week. Named a Student of the Semester, she is a member of the 2012-13 Student Leadership Academy and Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She is a student mentee of North Carolina Society for Respiratory Care and past vice president of the CVCC Association of Respiratory Therapy Students. She is a past volunteer with Iredell County Hospice and Palliative Care and served on the board of the American Renaissance Charter School in Statesville.

Hoerr holds a certificate in massage therapy and body work from Blue Ridge Healing Arts Academy in Concord, N.C., and has worked as a massage therapist for the past 12 years. She earned a Massage Therapy License from NCBMBT, Certificate in Hospice and Palliative Care Massage, and Certificate in Thermal Stone Therapy. She and her two children live in Statesville.
