Dula & Hoerr Named Students of the Semester


Catawba Valley Community College students Sheila M. Dula and Jill C. Hoerr were recently named Students of the Semester.

Up to eight students are nominated for this award during each academic year. Students are recognized for their academic achievements, school leadership and community involvement. They also receive gift certificates to be used in the college cafeteria and campus store.

A Morganton resident, Dula is enrolled in the Criminal Justice Technology associate degree program with a concentration in Latent Evidence and plans to graduate this spring. She was elected president of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society for the 2012-13 academic year and is a member of the 2012-13 Student Leadership Academy. She serves as a tutor, mentor and work study student in the Learning Assistance Center.   

A native of Peoria, Ill., Hoerr is enrolled in the Respiratory Therapy associate degree program and plans to graduate this spring. She is a member of the 2012-13 Student Leadership Academy and Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She is a student mentee of North Carolina Society for Respiratory Care and past vice president of the CVCC Association of Respiratory Therapy Students. She is a past volunteer with Iredell County Hospice and Palliative Care and served on the board of the American Renaissance Charter School in Statesville.  

Hoerr holds a certificate in massage therapy and body work from Blue Ridge Healing Arts Academy in Concord, N.C., and has worked as a massage therapist for the past 12 years. She earned a Massage Therapy License from NCBMBT, Certificate in Hospice and Palliative Care Massage, and Certificate in Thermal Stone Therapy. She and her two children live in Statesville.
