National Entrepreneurship Week Celebration Feb. 18-23
In conjunction with National Entrepreneurship Week (Feb. 18-23), Catawba Valley Community College announces the formation of its Job Creation Center as the college’s innovated grouping of entrepreneurial resources. Its mission is to support the successful launch and expansion of Job Creation.
The Job Creation Center consists of CVCC’s Small Business Center, Business and Entrepreneurship Programs and Manufacturing Solutions Center. All three entities, plus the CVCC Cosmetology Center in Newton, join in celebrating National Entrepreneurship Week with activities and events to heighten awareness of the business start-up and expansion services the college offers:
Mon., Feb. 18, 10:30 a.m.-Kick-Off Celebration
The college will host the “Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour” featuring young entrepreneurs Arel Moodie, Benji Rabhan and Devin Lars. Each have made, earned and sold their companies for millions. Members of the student body and community will be able to ask the guest entrepreneurs questions about how they achieved success.
Hickory Mayor and small business owner Rudy Wright will present CVCC President Dr. Garrett D. Hinshaw with the National Entrepreneurship Week Proclamation from the City of Hickory.
Tues., Feb. 19, 9:30 a.m.
The Small Business Center and the Cosmetology Center will host seminars and demonstrations.
Wed., Feb. 20, 12:30 p.m.
The Business Department will be host a screening of the film “Atlas Shrugged I” in the East Wing Auditorium on CVCC’s Main Campus.
Thurs., Feb. 21, 2 p.m.
CVCC’s Manufacturing Solutions Center in Conover will be open for facility tours.
The Small Business Center and Cosmetology Center will also host seminars and demonstrations.
Fri., Feb. 22 from 11 a.m.
Kim Ellington, director of CVCC’s Potters’ Workshop will give a presentation on the economic impact of traditional Catawba Valley pottery in the Student Center on the Main Campus.
The Job Creation Center will host a Speakers’ Forum from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Other activities are schedule for the afternoon as part of the closing ceremonies.
Sat., Feb. 23, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The Potters’ Workshop will host an Open House. Ellington and the Potters’ Workshop staff and faculty will be on hand to answer questions and offer demonstrations.
Transportation will be available from the Main Campus to some of the off-campus events. There is no cost to attend CVCC’s National Entrepreneurship Week activities, but pre-registration is required.
