Dept. Head Brian Morris Earns Doctorate

D. Brian Morris, department head of Fine & Applied Arts for Catawba Valley Community College, recently completed a doctorate in educational leadership/higher education through Western Carolina University.

His dissertation focused on community college selective enrollment and the challenge to open access.

Morris joined the faculty in 2002 to help launch the Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology program.  He has served in numerous leadership roles, including teams that developed the college’s strategic plan, enrollment management initiative, and “Catawba” student literary journal. He is a member of the college’s marketing team, the Printing Industries of the Carolinas and Hickory Lodge #343 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

He became department head in 2008 and is responsible for managing six curriculum programs and CVCC’s Potters’ Workshop.

A native of Maiden, he earned an associate degree in printing technology at Chowan University and a bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He also earned a diploma in electronic servicing technology at CVCC.

Morris worked as a production manager and customer service representative in the commercial printing industry for more than 15 years.
