CVCC Receives NC Back-To-Work Grant
Catawba Valley Community College recently received a North Carolina Back-to-Work grant from the NC Community College System in the amount of $285,344 funded by NC General Assembly and NC Department of Commerce Division of Workforce Solutions.
The grant will help CVCC develop retraining programs to prepare the long-term unemployed for work in jobs that require mechatronics, robotics, logistics, National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications, CNC, welding and Six Sigma Green & Black Belt. Participants will also receive training in Human Resources Development, KeyTrain and WorkKeys assessment to achieve Career Readiness Certification.
“Community Colleges are often the first place North Carolinians turn to gain the skills they need to re-enter the workforce,” said Dr. Scott Ralls, president of the NC Community College System. “This support from both the NC General Assembly and Department of Commerce will allow 16 community colleges to further focus our efforts to provide training and marketable credentials, which we hope will lead to employment and new careers, to those struggling with months of unemployment.”
The grant will provide financial assistance for qualifying individuals who wish to enroll in one of the designated training programs or career pathways.
