Mackie Appointed to State Committee

Keith Mackie, Ed.D., vice president of instructional programs for Catawba Valley Community College, has been appointed by the North Carolina Community College System to serve on the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement Joint Review Committee.

Mackie joins administrators from state universities, community colleges and the North Carolina Community College System in directing a new path for the college transfer process.  The committee is charged with reviewing and updating the agreement that initially established articulation, or transfer of courses, from community colleges to North Carolina public universities in 1997. This agreement has made it possible for more than 102,000 students to successfully transfer their community college course credits to a UNC college of their choice to complete a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Over the last five years, there has been more than a 20 percent increase in community college transfers to UNC colleges. However, the committee will explore methods to help community college students complete an associate degree (two year degree) prior to transfer and increase the rate of graduation from their four-year college of choice.

Mackie earned his doctorate in adult and community college education at North Carolina State University and became vice president in 2008. During his career at CVCC, he served as a faculty member in advertising and graphic design for 17 years. He also served in numerous administrative roles, including associate dean of business, graphics and public services, division chair of graphics and public service; and department head of advertising and graphic design and photographic technology.

He serves on several local educational committees including the Western Piedmont Workforce Development Board, Challenger Early College High School Steering Committee and Matriculation Review Board and the Catawba County Schools Technical Education Taskforce. He is a former member of the Future Forward Alliance Taskforce and Catawba County Schools Technical Education Taskforce.
