GAIT Students Win PICA Awards



Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology students took home 15 awards during the recent PICA (Printing Industries of the Carolinas) annual student competition. Honors won include four Best of Category awards, six Special Judges Awards and five Awards of Excellence.

Each year, CVCC students compete against other two- and four-year college students in North and South Carolina, including Clemson, Appalachian State University, Central Piedmont Community College, and many others.

Tao Yang of Burke County won Best of Category in the Offset Printing in one color and Offset Printing halftones. Peter Moua of Newton won Best of Category in the Offset Printing in two colors concert poster and a Special Judges Awards in the Offset Printing in two colors. Ron Jones of Granite Falls won Best of Category in the Offset Printing with duotones and two Special Judges Awards in the Screen Printing in two colors on non-textile.

Maya Sweezy of Hickory won a Special Judges Awards in the Offset Printing in halftones and an Award of Excellence in the Digital Printing ink jet flexible. Jenny Borowski of Conover won a Special Judges Awards in the Screen Printing in one color on textile.

Rusty Sigmon of Hickory won an Award of Excellence in the Digital Printing ink jet flexible. Leia Nash of Denver and Trynadi Avery of Lincolnton won an Award of Excellence in the Offset Printing one color. Leighanna Hargenrader of Hickory won an Award of Excellence in the Screen Printing in two colors on non-textile.
