DBA 6th Grade Scholarships-March Parent Info Sessions

The news is full of discouraging headlines about college soon being out of financial reach for average American families. Catawba Valley Community College is launching a new academy to dramatically change that.

Beginning this spring, CVCC will make college more attainable for families in Catawba and Alexander counties through its new Dream-Believe-Achieve Scholarship Program.

Information sessions for parents of current sixth graders will be held on the CVCC Main Campus in Hickory from 6 to 9 p.m. on March 15, 22 and 26 in the Student Center. More details about the scholarship and the degrees offered at CVCC will be provided. Campus tours and a light dinner will be provided.

An information session will also be held at the Alexander Center for Education in Taylorsville on March 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

A select number of sixth graders will receive up to a two-year college scholarship in exchange for participation in the program. The scholarship fills the gap between a student’s eligibility for financial aid and the actual cost of tuition at CVCC.

However, the program is more than just tuition assistance. Students admitted to the Dream-Believe-Achieve Scholarship program commit to participate in a six-year mentoring and life skills academy. Activities are designed to help them transition smoothly from high school to college. The goal is to develop well rounded students ready for success in the classroom, in the student’s chosen career and ultimately in life.
