Online Job Search Seminar Oct. 20

The School of Business, Industry & Technology will present a free public seminar on “How to Find Your Dream Job Online Without the Nightmare,” on Thurs., Oct. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Online scammers take advantage of unsuspecting job seekers every day. Recent industry data shows that online job scams have surged 500 percent since the recession began. Other sources say less than two percent of work-at-home jobs advertised on the Internet are genuine.

“How to Find Your Dream Job Online” will explain how to detect deceptive job offers and scams and how to effectively conduct online job searches. Presenters will explain what personal information job seekers should and should not place online to protect their personal and financial identity. Participants will also learn techniques for researching companies and jobs where they would like to work to get a competitive advantage during interviews.

The seminar will be held on the Main Campus on Hwy. 70 SE in Hickory in West Wing 118.  Computers will be provided for participants to use during the seminar.

Presenters include business faculty Bill Barnes, Normal Marler and D.L. Turbyfill.

There is no charge for the seminar. However, registration is required in order to provide all participants with access to a computer during the seminar. Register by calling Selina Maxie, 828-327-7000, ext. 4307.
