Disaster Preparedness Workshop Sept. 21

Catawba Valley Community College's School of Health and Public Services will offer a Disaster Preparedness Workshop 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 21, in the CVCC Auditorium.

National Preparedness Month, an event founded after 9/11 to increase disaster preparedness in the U.S., is a month-long effort encouraging households, businesses and communities to prepare and plan for emergencies.  This year’s focus will be turning awareness into action by encouraging all individuals and all communities nationwide to make an emergency preparedness plan.

Lynn Sigmon, Disaster Preparedness Consultant with Business Service Associates, L.L.C., will be presenting a Disaster Preparedness Workshop focusing on three important steps:

1.     Get an emergency supply kit.

2.     Make a plan for what to do in an emergency.

3.     Be informed about emergencies that could happen in your community and identify sources of information in your community that will be helpful before, during and after an emergency.

Sigmon is the president of Business Services Associates, LLC, senior business advisor and seminar leader. She assists others in developing their business expectation and improving their bottom lines.  She is a graduate of CVCC and holds a bachelor’s degree from Garner-Webb University. She and her husband Terry are co-authors of the book, “What Did You Expect?”

Preparedness is a shared responsibility. It takes the entire community. This event is free and open to the public.
