Eggleston Awarded Mark North Scholarship

Josh Eggleston, a student enrolled in the Architectural Technology program, was recently awarded the Mark North Memorial Scholarship through the CVCC Foundation, Inc.

A native of New York, Eggleston is a 2009 graduate of Saranac Central High School in Saranac, N.Y. He moved to Hickory to enroll in CVCC’s Architectural Technology program last year. He has been interested in design, construction and architecture since early childhood, drawing imaginary houses as early as age six. He took his first drafting class in ninth grade and has worked in construction since age 12, helping build his family’s house. He completed a year of study at the State University of Canton in New York in the engineering program.

The son of Jody and Tracy Eggleston of Saranac, he plans to graduate next spring and pursue his dream of becoming a residential designer.

“Josh has such tremendous skills and draws so fast, that I have to give him extra assignments to keep him challenged,” said Lynn Preslar, Architectural Technology instructor. “He’s quite talented and has a great future in architecture ahead of him.”

The Mark North Memorial Scholarship was established by his family, friends, and professional colleagues through the CVCC Foundation after North’s untimely death in 2007.

North graduated from CVCC’s Architectural Technology program in 1981. After partnering in Drafting Associates, a successful residential design business, North went on to become a successful general contractor and formed North Design and Construction.

The Professional Construction Estimators Association Chapter 9 has contributed to the scholarship annually.

Former business partner Preslar says, “Mark was a natural when it came to residential design and he had an infectious personality. His memory will live on through his talent and the lives he touched.”
